How do I start?

Read my profile of history, education, and experience to determine if you think we might be a good fit for therapy. We can schedule a 15-minute phone conference to help with any additional questions you might have. Schedule an initial appointment which is typically 90 minutes (45-55 if using insurance). During our first sessions, we will determine your goals for therapy and write a treatment plan to help us stay on track. Depending on the type of treatment we choose, sessions will be 50 or 90 minutes in length.  NOTE: If you choose to use health insurance, your provider will limit sessions to 45-55 minutes.  


how long will i be in therapy?

The length of therapy depends on your goals and commitment to the process. There is no "typical" therapy process. I was taught that after the initial sessions, the treatment plan would be completed in 8-12 weeks, followed by monthly sessions and a closing session. I've since learned that each person is in control of the journey and you decide if weekly or twice-a-week appointments are best for your process. Often clients are surprised that things have been resolved with EMDR in just a few sessions. 


is there any reason we would not be a good fit?

I am not a good fit for emergency or high-risk individuals. Since I am in individual practice, most days I am not immediately available by phone. It would be recommended to locate a therapist who is in a clinic or served high-needs clients. 

I do serve those who have experienced trauma, historically or recently, who are able to schedule and keep appointments.
